Greetings from Rwanda

Please allow us to introduce ourselves and our ministry. Angela and I are members of First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana. Our pastor is Dr. Jack Schaap and we are both graduates of Hyles-Anderson College. The Lord has called us to be missionaries to the people of Rwanda, East Africa. We go soul-winning, start churches, and train nationals to carry on the work. Please allow us to be your representatives to this needy people.

Current Projects

Amazing Grace Christian Radio
After 2 years of hard work and lots of paper pushing, we now have the following:
- Permission to operate!
- Frequency of 105.1 FM
- 160 foot radio tower is finished!
- Small house for transmitter is also finished!
- Place for the studio has been found!

All we need now is the equipment. Please pray for the Lord to supply quickly this last need.

Once finished, we will broadcast to over 6 million people. Please help us as we work hard to send out the Gospel Message.

Church Building
Cornerstone Baptist Church is growing and is in need of its own building and property. There are so many more activities that we could do if we had our own property. We are really hindered by staying in the school that we are renting. We still need about $25,000 to buy property. The only thing lacking for this church to be totally self-operating and self-supporting is to have a permanent place to meet.
Raising Additional Support
The Lord has blessed us and taken care of our needs here for the last four years. However, we also need to do our part to raise the necessary support for us to work here. Right now, we are praying for 15-20 new churches to take us on for support to meet our needs. We pray that you would consider supporting this exciting ministry.

September – October 2008

Dear Praying Friends,

“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Corinthians 15:57) After three years of working and praying to start the radio station, I am so happy that the Lord has given us the victory. I have worked for months trying to raise money to buy the radio equipment and came up with so very little by myself; but with God’s amazing grace, He has provided all the money necessary in one month! Amen!

Now all of the radio equipment has been ordered, and it is starting to come in. The technicians have also bought their plane tickets to come. So, on December 16, 2008, we will have the opening ceremony to launch Amazing Grace Christian Radio. We will reach 90% of Rwanda and at least 10 million people with the radio.

But please, don’t stop praying! There is still much work to do, and Satan will try his hardest to stop this radio. Please pray for safety and protection as the team comes to set it up, and pray for all of the decisions that are necessary to operate this radio. Also, we still need $4,000 to get all of the batteries necessary to operate the battery backup system when the electricity goes out.

Angela had an interesting story last month while out soul winning with the ladies of the church. They met four men on the road by our house whom they witnessed to. They were very interested and had so many questions. They finally understood and received Christ. Afterwards they said, “Thank you so much for teaching your children about God.” It worked out that as they saw our children day by day going to church, handing out tracts, and obeying, they realized that we had something they needed.

Thank you so much for all the cards for our birthdays and our anniversary.  In the last two months, we have seen 86 saved out soul winning and 7 saved in church. Thank you for your faithful prayers and support of this ministry here in Rwanda.

July – August 2008

Dear Praying Friends,

“…Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” (Zechariah 4:6) It is so wonderful to see God’s Sprit move! In the past several months, I have spent a great deal of time trying to find sponsors and donations for the radio station. Quite frankly, all of my hard work amounted to almost nothing. So, after working hard to prove it is not by my might or power, God stepped in!

“Out of the blue,” donations have been coming in for the radio. Also, someone has given us a challenge. If we can raise $30,000 in 30 days, a man will match that amount given. Truly, this is God’s work, and He will be glorified for what He has done and what He will do!

In July I had to take Virginia to the hospital. She had a swollen foot and was not able to walk on it at all. It was so pitiful to see her at the age of 3½ having to crawl every place in the house. The swelling was strange because she had no injury, bite, or sting that we knew of, so all I could tell the doctor was the same thing Virginia told me, “It hurts!”

But once again, God’s ways are higher than our ways. Because of that little problem, I was able to talk to the doctor some at the hospital. He came later to my house to continue the discussion, and after about two hours of witnessing, he was very happily saved.

Immediately following the “doctor’s appointment” at my house, Eric, a waiter I met at a local restaurant, came. He had a lot of questions. So, after another two hours, he was happily saved. So many people here think they are “saved” because they go to church and try hard to be a good person. It is so wonderful to see the joy that comes to their faces when they realize that Christ paid it all without us having to add to His work. They both told me that it was like a tremendous burden had been lifted from their shoulders. Amen!

Last week I won Augustine to Christ. I was preaching on the street, and he was very interested. He told me it was a good message but not available for him because he was too big of a sinner. I showed him some places in the Bible—John 3:16 and Romans 10:13and that whosoever included him. He was so happy that God had not left him without hope!

In the last two months, we have seen 165 saved out soul winning, 13 saved in church, and 8 baptized. Thank you for your faithful prayers and support of this ministry here in Rwanda.

April - June 2008

Dear Praying Friends,

“As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.” (Psalm 127:4) We are so happy for another arrow flying in. Zachery David was born May 17, 2008, and weighed 5 pounds 13 ounces and was 18½ inches long. He is growing well now but had a problem with RSV and had to go back to the hospital for a week because of breathing problems.

Please keep all of the other “little arrows” in prayer as we strive to raise them for God in a sinful world. It is a blessing to see them grow and begin to take interest in the souls of their friends and neighbors. Sadly, one neighbor actually told Caleb to stop talking about Jesus! However, it has pushed Caleb to pray more for him every night in devotions.

Rwanda has had the same effect on me. As people reject us for preaching Jesus, for preaching against sin, and for not “helping” people with money handouts, it has caused me to pray more, to fast more, and to cry more to God for mercy for Rwanda. As the studio room for the radio sits empty and quiet day by day, tears fill my eyes as I realize that many will die before the radio station gets on the air. They will go to a Christless Hell for all eternity without hearing a clear presentation of the Gospel.

Please pray for the Lord’s blessing as I get back to spending more time out preaching on the streets. The last three months have been so busy with unpacking and getting the new house set up, having a new baby, and also spending much time calling churches to raise funds for the radio. It is very time-consuming, but the radio work must be done. Because we have our visas through the radio station, if the radio is not started quickly, we could face losing our visas to stay in the country.

About 90 churches so far have promised they would send some special offerings to help get Amazing Grace Christian Radio on the air. Amen! With the downturn in the economy, please pray that all those promises will come in quickly. Again, Satan is doing everything he can to fight us right now and stop this tool from being built. Thank you to all the churches that have already sent in support.

January - March 2008

Dear Praying Friends,

Hallelujah ! As you can see, the tower is up and standing strong. Thank you to all who donated towards building the tower. So now we have the tower, the house for the machines, permission from the government for 105.1 FM, a place for the studio, and staff to operate it. The only things we lack are the transmitter and equipment.

Rwanda needs the Good News that will be preached on this radio. Please help make it possible for six million people to hear the Gospel. That is 75% of the population of Rwanda that will be reached. Now is the time to finish this project. We need approximately $60,000 for the equipment and setup costs. Some could give several thousand dollars, some $1000, some $500, or some what God lays on their hearts. This goal can be reached if we all work together.

Along with building the tower, we still have been working faithfully in the church. We had the privilege of having our 3rd Annual Valentine Banquet. The couples really enjoyed themselves and hopefully learned to love and spend more time with their spouses. We also had a baby dedication and began packing all our things to shift* houses at the end of February. (*A Rwandan saying that means to move)

In the last three months, we have seen 66 saved out soul winning, 21 saved in church, and 9 baptized. Thank you for your faithful prayers and support of this ministry here in Rwanda.

December 2007

Dear Praying Friends,

What a busy month! A whole lot of tiring work but what great blessing with it all. It took several weeks to weld, paint, remove the bad paint, and finally repaint; but the tower is now built and moved up the mountain.

It really is amazing how God has provided for everything so far. Please continue to pray for God to bless and for what He would have you to do to help. All we need now is the studio equipment, transmitters, and initial setup costs to finish. Amen!

In December, we saw 64 saved out soul winning, 8 saved in church and 1 baptized. Thank you for your prayers and support of this ministry here in Rwanda.

In His Service,

Gregg, Angela, Caleb, Hannah, Timothy, Virginia, Micah, and ??? Schoof
